The use of UKIS as a document and information management system also includes the management of scanned documents. The converter option integrate scanners using the optical character recognition (OCR) technology.

The integrated OCR software of UKIS (FineReader Engine by ABBYY) analyses document texts and exports recognised contents, and also converts the document to the PDF format. This ensures that scanned documents are available for the search engine.
