BaBS^®

One of the general tasks of UKIS is to deliver various contents such as documents, product data from databases, process data from control systems and operating systems etc. In practice, this often means importing information from various heterogeneous IT systems. In most cases, the data also needs to be enriched, recalculated or converted into new numbers and reports. Importing and transforming such data is the principal task of the information broker BaBS. BaBS transfers information to UKIS via an interface. BaBS acts as an information broker, which means that BaBS receives the data and the information from various sources and forwards the information to the clients.

CAD stands for Computer Aided Design. CAD Software supports the user in the design, the construction and the presentation of technical drawings. There are about as many different file formats for CAD drawings as there are major software packages. Some examples would be the DXF or the DWG CAD formats.

High Availability

A high availability system is a system which is able to function in spite of  an error. Even if an error occurs, a high availability system will not  interrupt any processes. An unrestricted operation can be guaranteed only if redundant systems on the servers are made available through special software and in an error situation, the redundant component takes over the functional execution.

Coal Stock

A coal stock is a supply of fuel for power plants. Coal deliveries usually arrive by train or by collier. The deliveries are moved on the stocks by beltway systems and other mining equipment. From there it is fed into a storage bunker in order to be burned in the power station.

MBS is the abbreviation for Modul Combustibles. The fuel management system developed by HAUK & SASKO supports all business processes  for  fuel supply und disposal in conventional power plants. MBS includes the business processes planning, procurement, application optimization and disposal. The commercial processes are IT-supported in an integrated system in MBS.

Meta data

Meta data describe characteristics of a document / object. The file name, access rights and the date of the last changes to the document are part of the meta data of a file. Files that do not contain meta data can only be found in the full text search through the object name, even if they are entered into a Document-Management-System, an Enterprise-Content-Management-System, a SAP PM or the like.

The object class is a term resulting from object-oriented programming. For  instance,  computer programs which follow a basic idea are developed. A basic principle is described with all its qualities and functions. This is an object. The description of an object is an “object class“. Now the object class can be used to create any actual objects, so-called "authorities " of the object class to be used in the program.

OPC is a shorthand for Openness, Productivity and Collaboration. and is designed to deliver open connectivity via open standards in industrial automation. The specification OPC HDA (Historical Data Access) is used to retrieve and analyze historical process data. OPC DA (Data Access) provides access to real time process data.

RDS-PP represents Reference Designation System for Power Plants. The RDS-PP is the consistent continuation of the KKS on the basis of international standards and guidelines. The new designation system developed by VGB fulfils the requirements of European Directives in terms of operational safety, ergonomics, procurement and declaration of conformity. Thus RDS-PP can be considered to be a standard-conforming designation system.

A Servlet is a program written in Java which is executed by the web server. The name stems from Applet, which is an application that the browser conducts as a client of a webserver. Usually  communication with a Servlet functions through an Applet. The Applet addresses the web server through HTTP, which then transmits the inquiry to the Servlet. Servlets are often used to determine or process data which then reports the result through an Applet or a generated HTML page.

Single Sign On

Single Sign on (SSO) means that a user can access all data and services authorized to him after a one-time authentication at his/her workstation. The user has only one identity which must be verified only once by the input of a password. Single Sign On has clear advantages, i.e. saves user time, but also disadvantages. If an identity is stolen, all systems and data are accessible to the unauthorized user.
